For a good while now, this wiki has categorized New 52 content under the character in question's New Earth pages. Now that there's a designation for the "New 52" Earth, does this mean that all characters (sans ones such as Batman or Superman who lack the Earth designation in their name at all for notability) should have split pages for their New 52 selves? For example, I was about to create Jonah Hex (Prime Earth), but I see even in new issue updates that the character is listed as Jonah Hex (New Earth) and minor or first appearance characters are labeled as Prime Earth Characters. How is it we're handling these pages for established characters? Thanks in advance.
I'm glad you've decided to reach out to us in trying to figure out what we're doing with the DC Database and Prime Earth.
Without too much history and to be straight to the point, we're basically in the process of transitioning characters who are clearly defined as different from New Earth to Prime Earth. Characters who only ever existed on Prime Earth will reflect that and say Prime Earth.
Take Timothy Drake (New Earth) and Timothy Drake (Prime Earth) as an example. Although Tim is a Bat-character and therefore under extreme scrutiny by the admins, he is so vastly different from his 'mainstream' version that it was impossible to contain all that information on one page so we split.
Whereas characters like First Lantern (Volthoom) exist only on Prime Earth and have less explanatory information on their pages. Jonah Hex is an interesting case in which I'll have to defer to another admin about but here's what I'd tell you right now: focus your efforts on anything other than Prime Earth and let admins and users close to them handle it.
It's not that we're trying to bogard these pages or their histories for nefarious purposes ;) it's just that this is a delicate situation which can very well spiral into mayhem if not handled correctly.
Understood. I'll keep my distance for now, and see if something a bit more definitive can be established in terms of policy on this before adding any new pages. Thanks.
There is a fine line between some characters' pre-flashpoint history and their post-flashpoint history - which is to say, those characters have basically the same hiwtory.
Jonah Hex is one of those characters. Bruce Wayne (at the moment) is one of those characters. Hal Jordan is too.
The trouble is, if we make new pages for those characters, they will have essentially the same information on them as the New Earth page - including their new adventures.
So, we - (the administrators) - are debating over which characters are significantly different and which would only be confusing for people (because it would be confusing if you were trying to figure out which version you wanted, and both pages said the same thing).
Anyway, We are slowly rolling out new pages for the ones who ARE significantly different as new information appears in books and as we... debate it. Eventually, we will come to a decision on whether some characters need to be split or not - but the fact is that logistically, it's easier for us to leave them on one page for the time being, because it would be more work to change things back than to change them in the first place... y'dig?
What you can do to help is:
keep the character pages up to date for those characters who AREN'T split yet, by putting the new information after the Post-Flashpoint Template, so that it's there when we decide to merge or split the character in question.
update character histories for characters who already have Prime Earth pages. Most of them are empty, and that sucks.
Honestly, it helps us more to have more CONTENT on the pages than it does to just have hundreds and hundreds of blank "new" pages, so, those are your best bets.
Otherwise, just hang out in New Earth land, and denial. :P
I have a question why hasn't anyone made the article for Batman: Arkham Origins? The reason I ask is because we have the relase date and I know three of the villians for it. They are Deathstroke, Black Mask, and Penguin.
I know it is but the game does not have a page yet that is what I want to know. You missread my question I wasn't saying that the characters didn't have pages.
Oh, yeah. I guess I did read it wrong. My mistake. Haha.
Anyway, it's probably on the admins list but it's closer towards the bottom. Right now, they have two big problems to sort out first: organizing Prime Earth pages and the new Injustice game. These are the big two. Arkham Origins, which is coming out in a couple months, isn't as important. I know we have information, but it's minimal. There's no sense in making a page yet if it's only going to say: Coming out in Fall. Has Deathstroke, Black Mask, and Penguin. Y'know? I'd say in a month (or when we get more information) the page will gain more attention.
(BTW: Sorry for reading your question wrong. I'm kinda out of it today, I guess. Haha.)
I just saw someone made it. Like I said, it has minimal information on it. I take it your following the game pretty closely? If you have any recent/valid information you find and like to add, go for it. The admins are pretty busy, so any help is appreciated all around here. Hope to see you around the wiki.
Yup. You forgot a pair of closing brackets at the end of the Branden (Arkahmverse) appearance listing, which is what caused it to revert entirely to code.
Well as far as I know the only image of him is in the game informer I have and I don't think that will do and we don't know what he is going to look like when the game is done so I went ahead and made the page.
Hey, I'm been going on the comic book pages that you purposely uploaded pages at a frame size that overcrowd the wiki page. So I'm been making them thumb size. If there's a reason for this, I implore you that you need to make the pictures smaller and better fit into the respecting pages.
Do you have an example? To my knowledge, I have removed all my images from comic pages, except for the few slide shows which remain and those get automatically adjusted.
And UnusedFiles isn't full of images we aren't doing anything with. Those files were renamed, the pages on which the image is used still use the redirect. That makes the actual image show up as "unused". Always use WhatLinksHere before deleting any.
She is 5'3'', 110 pounds in Smallville as shown in Bizarro, although that could have changed. (In the article it is 5'4'' with no weight given) Where do people get those stats anyway?
for the sake of not having an argument on a relatively important policy post, I'm going to remove our comments on the textless cover tutorial topic. I don't think new users who see that will be very encouraged by it.
Ok, but I wasn't trying to start an argument with you. I was pointing out that the admins need guidelines for regulating the forum such as when locking a thread is appropriate, etc. Were there administrative guidelines posted for the external forum? Would it be possible to post them here? I do not have access to the external forum.
We hadn't come up with anything yet.
We had only just enabled it when you started working in there.
Basically, I just don't see a reason to duplicate pages that already exist on the wiki, when you could just link them from one centralized post. The "Read This First" post is helpful, of course. Meanwhile, we're working on so many improvements to the wiki right now that a lot of those really old policy pages are already outdated, or will be soon.
Right now, I don't have an issue with what you're doing in that new policy forum, which I think is definitely worth having. I just don't want to get too carried away with copying content that's available elsewhere to the forums.
Warner Bros. has given us an exclusive video to use through Monday Dec 3rd- you can see it on our http://www.wikia.com/Entertainment as the Featured Video.
We'd love to have it featured in your Video Gallery on the main page. Would this be okay? Lemme know!

Truth is, I didn't even know there was a video gallery on the main page. Maybe it can be moved up a bit, and bump down community central and ask a DCPedian.
