To highlight all the great content on DC Database, we wanted to see if you were interested in exclusive video content from Wikia’s Video Library. We would be doing the bulk of the work by finding relevant great videos and embedding them on the wiki.
To draw attention to the high-quality videos Wikia currently has, we wanted to ask if we could update a part of the Community Messages, and create a rotating gallery of videos in a “Featured Media” section on the front page. It shouldn't take up that much more space and an example can be seen here: http://ninokuni.wikia.com/wiki/Ni_No_Kuni_Wiki
Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the suggestions!
We've decided to update the DC Database wordmark to the newest DC logo. Despite our personal feelings about it we figured we should upgrade. I'm in charge of handling the theme design so it falls onto me but I ran into a problem.
I need a clean image of the "Database" word bubble, both here and on the Marvel DB the end corner of the yellow banner is cut off by the logo and it's impossible to lay the new logo over it cleanly.
I will keep you posted, but I get the sense it won't be a for a couple weeks. DC changed their logo a long time ago, so I suppose we can wait a few more weeks. :)
Hey guys, I couldn't help but notice your conversation and tried my best to reconstruct the banner from what was already there. Is it cool if I help out? Here's what I came up with; I'm not sure if you want the DC logo to overlap the bubble a bit.
I was just sending you this to let you know that as long as you have administrators like Midoki24 I will not be back on this site and will be deleting my account. I have been a comics fan my whole life and have even worked on comics of my own. So to have someone who is on a power trip delete my pictures and give absolutely no reason for it, is to much. I will also be letting my friends know that things like this is aloud to happen and go on on this site so they should beware of it. Also I will let them konw not to post on this site because there is no way of telling what these people are actually doing with the pictures. So they should definitely not post any of their personal work on this site. Sorry but I needed to let you know what was actually going on on your site.
I agree that there was not enough explanation given, nor enough warning given to you with regard to why your images were deleted.
However, one post on your wall: Thread:307598, does explain what you should have been doing to prevent your images from being deleted. You must follow the naming conventions for images. You must use and fill out the image template.
As I was not involved at all in any of what transpired, I can't be sure what you did or didn't do properly.
I have sent Midoki a message regarding the need to be more courteous and explanatory when confronting users whose editing needs work.
We have very strict image policy here, because we use so much copyrighted content that we have to cover our butts with properly filled out licensing information. That is how people know that we are using their work properly, and for educational purposes.
There are several ways of knowing what we're doing with the pictures - but it is easier to know when the image template is properly filled out - which is why we insist that it be filled out, otherwise the images are subject to deletion.
Nobody should be uploading any personal work onto this site. We don't allow that.
Thank you for the feedback, DarthDraco. I understand your feelings, but I am sorry to hear about your decision to leave.
I will simply say that I agree with Hatebunny: We have a strict policy to protect/prevent ourselves from infringing copyrights. We also do not host personal work on this site, only work from official (canon, printed) DC Comics works.
If you have any further questions or concerns, I would be happy to speak with you further.
I am wondering if you happen to know any other Wikia projects that also have less than 3 characters in your URL, and I am wondering if there is some kind of unique process to go through to get it?
Were you guys created prior to that minimum being instated or something?
The reason I ask is with stuff like w:c:KingdomHearts, being KH.wikia would probably be very useful (especially since their nickname is also "The Key Hole"). Same if w:c:OnePiece could be OP.wikia too.
I imagine there are so many communities these days that the majority of two-letter combinations would have various people contesting for them, so it could be problematic if it were suddenly allowed and everyone made a grab, but maybe if it were brought to some people's attention of this being done and people could make applications?
I am not aware of any other wikis with less than 3 characters in the title. My wiki was created before Wikia even existed. We moved to Wikia (Wikicities) in 2006.
You should try emailing community@wikia.com, they are generally very helpful. If anyone could guide you, it would be them.
Your changes to the slider bumped two of the items off of it. Apparently, the slider gallery type only allows for 4 items. Do you know of any way to make it display more than that, so we can get those important items back on?
