Would you mind chiming in on this discussion on my wall? I think it's important to get someone else who's made a considerable number of edits to episode pages to comment on this issue.
When making a link, stopping the code for it at the | drops everything before it that doesn't come before a colon or in parenthesis. So if you write [[Oliver Queen (Arrow)|]] you get Oliver Queen. Helps on those Arrow pages so you don't have to write everything twice.
For me, a featured character is THE featured character of the show. Ollie IS Arrow so he is the featured character. IMO the other characters are just supporter to the featured character.
Like Clark Kent was the featured character of "Smallville" or Dinah, Barbara and Helena were the featured characters of "Birds of Prey".
Other Note: Can you find a source that IDs Deadshot as Floyd Lawton? The show's played with names enough I wouldn't want to create a "Floyd Lawton (Arrow)" page prematurely just to find he's got a different name.
Nope, I have not but there are not that many different names on the show. Ok, the name of Star City is Starling City, Queen Industries is named Queen Consolidated but the rest ... it seems pretty comicbook orientated. Laurel uses her second name as her nickname and all the other comiccharacters uses their comicbook names. Lucas Hilton is Lucas Hilton, Helena Bertinelli will be Helena Bertinelli, Constantine Drakon is Constantine Drakon and so on. The only character who has a different name is Quentine Lance ... I guess.
Thea Queen is an original character to the series and Speedy is just a name which was used by two different Green Arrow supporting characters so far.
The true name of the DC character Merlyn was never revealed. Arthur King is just an other alias of Merlyn. Tommy Merlyn is also very, very loosely based on Merlyn (but I like them both).
Maybe we can create a Deadshot (Arrow) page after the episode (if his name will not be revealed) but linking to the disambig page isn't the best way. Deal? :)
And about the Toms, Dicks and Harrys from Smallville: Some of them are important, even if they only appeared in one episode. I will sort them out when I'm creating the characterpages but I wanted to create the episode pages first (without checking out the importance of EVERY character) :)
What can I say? George was an "important" character even if he was only a "background" character but there are so many characters on this Wiki, with just one appearance ... tell me: Why do they need a page and characters like the security guard George doesn't? Smallville is a part of DC like the Nolanverse, like the comics, like the Teen Titans TV series and so on. A comic character with just 1 appearance isn't much more imporant than George with 9 appearances.
http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Kid_Emotion_%28New_Earth%29 <-- like this character. There is just ONE appearance. What did he do, to get his page? I'm not here to cause any trouble, don't get me wrong. I just can't understand what the problem is. Yeah, they weren't important like some other characters are but yeah ... this is DC (!!!) wiki.
Because when I read that Teen Titans series I want to know who that character is whether or not he's important. I'm curious to a costume or a new face, whereas I don't think George will ever be revisited.
Maybe in the Smallville Season 11 comics? Everything is possible in the world of DC. Ok, the chance is not that high but there is a chance. But anyway ... if you don't like it, delete it but for me, DC Wiki is a Wiki about the WHOLE DC Universe and not just the comicbooks.
So, can I create pages for characters like Coach Walt Arnold again (because he was a villain for one episode) or not? I wouldn't create a page for Mrs. Arkins because she wasn't really important (just as a example).
I think you just need to use your best judgement and even that's a subjective thing. If there's a janitor who walks by and someone says, "Hey Walt," and that's his only appearance in the show, I wouldn't make him a page. If they're important enough you'd write some history for them on their character page, they can probably get a page.
Since they're only one word, they likely share their name with another concept. Don't forget to add them to the relevant disambiguation page (Spirit, for example). See here (under Other Media) for a way to implement it.
Hey Jimmy, I see you made an edit to Tim Drake's Earth-16 page and I want to discuss something with you as I work on the page.
We've been keeping an extra eye on the Earth-16 pages to keep them on a certain level of workmanship where they're at least skeleton pages that users can then further edit. So trust me when I say that I'm not the only one doing our best to keep them up to date and in order.
As such I want to bring to your attention our unofficial policy on nicknames, alias and the like. At the moment we're having an open discussion about names for characters like Superboy, one I think you'd be interested. In Tim Drake's case, we all know his name is Tim Drake but of course his full name is Timothy; Tim is just a nickname. Calling Richard Dick isn't an alias it's a nickname. As such nicknames belong in the trivia section or in Tim and Dick's case it belongs at the top of the page in the real name field since they go by them so frequently.
I'm going to fix up Tim's page once again but I want you to understand that in case this situation arise again if you'd like to debate how these nicknames are handled feel free in a talk page, forum post or simply in the Database Chat where our admins frequent.
I totally understand it, Midoki24 but I also got a question. On the Carter Hall (New Earth) page, Prince Khufu Kha-Tarr is listed as an Alias but it was his real name. There are many pages where nicknames are listed as aliases.
Maybe we should add "Nicknames" to the tamplates?
Btw. sorry for my bad english today. English isn't my native language and I'm not feeling that well today.
Oh it's totally fine don't worry about it, you're far from the only member here who's English isn't their native language.
Specifically for Carter Hall, his "real name" is actually Prince Khufu Kha-Tarr however this isn't the current incarnation's real name. We actually should have a page for the Prince and all of Hawkman's other incarnations as well. Carter Hall is the curator and adventurer and that's what Hawkman's real name is.
I suggested that we add Nicknames to the template a long time ago and I was told then the same thing I'll tell you now and it's that nicknames can both be serious and silly and as such they become more trivia than actual information such as "Battling Bowman" and "Cass" they differ in substance and it's easier for everyone to include well known names as information and nicknames as trivia. Check out Captain Marvel's page for instance.
Officially, not until Feb 28 (apart from the Paley Center screening). But these movies have a history of leaking early. I'm going to be a good person and wait for the DVD...
There are promo pics, we can use those. For all I care we can use pirated screenshots too. It wasn't a slap on the wrist or anything, I was just wondering.
