  • There's no need to add appearances to (Collections). They need to be converted to the Collected Template and moved to their actual name.

  • Hello!

Thank you for uploading new content to the DC Database project!

We have lots of images in our database, 120,968 in fact, and in order to keep them organized we use a system of naming, categories and licensing added to each.

    1. Please review our Naming Conventions for Images. Images are categorized by name, so a descriptive name rather than a string of numbers is important.
      1. As a guide, look what other images in a character's gallery are called, and continue with the same name and number. If you upload a first image of a character, use "[Name] [Universe] 001". Ignore the Universe designation if it is a New Earth character.
      2. Issue covers should be given at least the title of the series, the volume and the number. A name similar to the issue is preferred: "Title Vol 1 1". Textless covers should be called "Title Vol 1 1 Textless". Files that do not indicate the issue number will be deleted.
    2. Images should be no less than 300px wide, unless no bigger image is available.
    3. Add the Image Template to the images you upload. This is mandatory. Fill it in as detailed here, or below.
    4. Selecting the proper license is vital to properly maintaining our images. Please choose the license which best describes the image you are uploading. The most commonly used are 'Comic Single Panel' and 'Comic Cover', respectively.
    5. Other fields that should be filled in: Issue, Subject1, Artist. Add Source if you've taken it from a different site. If you've taken it from a different site and don't know the issue, DO NOT UPLOAD IT.

For a more in-depth guide, see Help:Image Template Hub. In addition, please take a moment to review our policies page and more specifically our image policy.

Questions can be directed to any of our admins, or asked on our forums.

  • Hey, first things first I've been meaning to say for a long time that I god damn love how much effort you've been putting into The Atlantis Chronicles. As the guy who wrote almost the entirety of the Aquaman article, it does my heart good to see. That being said... I wanted to talk to you about notability. We're very big here about being willing to cover any character even if they've only made a single appearance, but that doesn't mean we need to cover every character. Generally in the case of a book like Atlantis Chronicles, the characters who are either directly involved in Aquaman's family lineage or are at least directly important to the plot deserve their own pages but we don't need one for every mention. If we had pages like Dan for every comic in DC history, we'd have a million pages named Bob (New Earth) or Steve (New Earth) or Ted (New Earth). Again, you're doing a great job on all of that David content, I just wanted to let you know that not everything needs its own page.

    • Well, it's just that someone included some characters between brackets just to fill them as a character template. I really want to contribute as much as possible by uploading pictures and filling templates. You' re right about characters that don't need further information and i'm able to erase them if necessary. There are also templates that i did which are essential, like the [[1]] in Superman. Please, sorry about my character templates. I'll cover characters that have made at least 2 appearances, strictly related to the stories. Thank you very much for your information, I'll be careful about that!

  • A small note about the image template - if an issue has multiple artists credited, we leave the penciler (or inker, or both) field on the image template blank. This is because only one of those multiple artists drew/inked that picture, and we don't want to misattribute. The only exception is when an artist's style is so well known that we know which one it is, or if the credtis include page numbers detailing which artist did which page.

    • Well, i think the last picture i uploaded is drawn by Mike Mignola, but i'm not sure. In the first page of that issue, the credits are all together. So, i'll better erase them from the template and check the pictures again. Thank you for your note!

  • Please do not remove the correct indexed name from the appearance tag. I'll explain, what you did was link to a redirect rather than to the actual page. The correct page name was "Professor Killgrave (New Earth)" and you linked to "Professor Killgrave".

It's been corrected multiple times. Also you've added an appearance tag to a mentioned character, which isn't necessary since they were merely mentioned not actually in the book.

So just be careful and make sure you understand how our tags work before making those changes in the future, good luck.

    • Just remove the {{a| portion at the beginning and the }} at the end. That denotes an actual on page appearance. If they're mentioned, still link them but leave the {{a| off.

    • That's what i'll do right now! Thank you very much!

  • When you create a character from an Elseworld, the Universe is not "Elseworlds", it's (in this case) "The Nail".

  • When you fill out the image template, you need to add full character names. If you want it to link to Black Lightning from The Nail, you need to put Jefferson Pierce (The Nail) instead of just Black Lightning. Also, when you upload, you don't need to select licensing from the dropdown menu since you are adding it a second time manually. See [[1]] to see how I corrected it. You're getting there but there's just a couple more bugs to work out. Keep it up.

    • Thank you very much for your help! I'll keep on checking all the subjects in my pics to link them to their templates. I will also stop using the dropdown menu. Thanks again!

  • You don't need to add the brackets if its the main character image on the page. Just type the file name after Image = . The template is set up to just recognize the file name there and adding the brackets screws stuff up.

  • When you upload an image, don't forget to add the image subject. Also, if you add a template to the summary field on uploading, you don't need to select a template from the drop-down menu.
