  • Andrew, please be careful when creating pages for comics that have not come out yet. Often times even the DC Comics website is not updated to the changes of creators of these issues until they come out (months later). It's our job to make sure that whatever is reflected in the books are presented here on the Database and if you include creators into a book that has not come out yet there is no way to verify since the issue has not come out yet.

This can often lead to mistakes and it has, please only provide the information that is given once the issue is out, not before. This includes images. Thanks and thank you for helping out.

    • Oh dear, here I am telling you again. This is unfortunate. Please do not add the information about who contributed to a comic book until the information is released because often times you are wrong and we don't have a way to source that information until the issue is in hand. I cannot repeat myself a third time (the ability to do so was not given to me).

  • Hello!

Thank you for uploading new content to the DC Database project!

We have lots of images in our database, 119,711 in fact, and in order to keep them organized we use a system of naming, categories and licensing added to each.

    1. Please review our Naming Conventions for Images. Images are categorized by name, so a descriptive name rather than a string of numbers is important.
      1. As a guide, look what other images in a character's gallery are called, and continue with the same name and number. If you upload a first image of a character, use "[Name] [Universe] 001". Ignore the Universe designation if it is a New Earth character.
      2. Issue covers should be given at least the title of the series, the volume and the number. A name similar to the issue is preferred: "Title Vol 1 1". Textless covers should be called "Title Vol 1 1 Textless". Files that do not indicate the issue number will be deleted.
    2. Images should be no less than 300px wide, unless no bigger image is available.
    3. Add the Image Template to the images you upload. This is mandatory. Fill it in as detailed here, or below.
    4. Selecting the proper license is vital to properly maintaining our images. Please choose the license which best describes the image you are uploading. The most commonly used are 'Comic Single Panel' and 'Comic Cover', respectively.
    5. Other fields that should be filled in: Issue, Subject1, Artist. Add Source if you've taken it from a different site. If you've taken it from a different site and don't know the issue, DO NOT UPLOAD IT.

For a more in-depth guide, see Help:Image Template Hub. In addition, please take a moment to review our policies page and more specifically our image policy.

Questions can be directed to any of our admins, or asked on our forums.

Go ahead and pop into chat when you get the chance, we'd like to talk to you about using the templates.

    • Sorry, I honestly forgot to do it, but I watched a very helpful video about it so we shouldn't have a problem from now on.

    • Go ahead and fill out your images with the correct template, we'll make further edits if necessary and you'll be set.

Remember that we're not fans of doing things ahead of time due to last minute changes but other than that you're squared away.

    • I hate to be harping on about this stuff, but your recent cover uploads haven't been completely filled out properly.

      Here are those tutorials again:
      For Cover Art Images
      For Textless Covers

Basically, the key is to have the proper image type, the source/issue field filled out and the cover artist/penciler filled out.

Just ask if there's something confusing you about those instructions. I have a habit of getting too wordy.

  • Ignore that last message from me.

I was trying to explain how to fill out comic cover templates, according to our standards - which are admittedly kind of complicated. Here's what I meant to say:

The License field should say "Comic Cover" if it is a comic cover, naturally.

Image Type: Either "Cover Art", "Textless", or "Variant" depending on the type.

Description: {{f|IssueTitle Vol # #}} This shows that the image is taken from that issue, and is fair use.

Source/Permission/Issue: Leave all of these blank unless the image is textless. If it is textless, then fill out ONLY the Issue field with "IssueTitle Vol # #"

Universe: Leave blank unless it is textless.

Subjects: Unless it is textless, simply type "None" in the first subject field. If it is textless, fill it out as normal.

CoverArtists: This is the only field you should fill out, and you MUST fill it out every time, or I will cry.

That's it. All other fields should be left blank.

I know you've done extensive work on the covers before they're ever released and while that's appreciated you've got to remember to use the template.
