History

During the first half of the 1940s, the Midnight Rider became active as a costumed adventurer. At the same time, she was in a homosexual relationship with the aquatic heroine Seafarer. This relationship was ultimately caught on camera by an overzealous photgrapher, whose paper ran with the story. Eventually, Midnight Rider was targeted for the Number of the Beast program, and placed in suspended animation, alongside Seafarer. While in their system, she joined the Paladins.

After sixty years later, Midnight Rider escaped with the rest of her teammates due to the efforts of the High. When the Authority investigated, she ended up fighting her namesake successor, the Midnighter (leading Swift to remark that they made a "lovely couple"). Eventually both the Authority and the Paladins stopped fighting and retreated to the Carrier but found that the American government had sent clones of the High called Reapers after Midnight Rider and her team. Midnight Rider and along with many other heroes fought them and after the damage done to the planet decided to remain a hero.
