Synopsis for "The Night Negative Man Went Berserk"
An unemployed dishwasher is threatening to fire a gun at a giant natural gas container which could cause death and serious injury to many in the city. The Doom Patrol lend their unique abilities and manage to stop the man before he can go too far and turn him over to the police. When the media interviews the Doom Patrol, Larry gets mad that they are called "fabulous freaks" by the people.
Later, at Doom Patrol headquarters, the members of the Doom Patrol begin a session testing the upper-limits of their abilities. Robotman tests his strength, and Elasti-Girl sees how small she can shrink and almost becomes victim to a wandering ant. Next to test their abilities is Larry, who wishes to see if the 60 second limit he sets for himself is really the threshold time that he can send out his Negative Man counter part. This experiment goes awry when the Negative Man flies over a broadcasting tower that is sending out the strongest radio transmission known to man. This disrupts the Negative Man's radio-energy body and causes it to go berserk.
With no time to spare, the Chief puts Larry in suspended animation so that he can live past the 60 second time limit his body can handle and sends Robotman and Elasti-Girl out to try and capture the Negative Man with a specially made device mounted on a truck that can hold the Negative Man prisoner. Meanwhile, the Negative Man begins attacking various power plants and radio transmission centers causing massive communications and electrical black outs across the city. Two enterprising crooks decide to use this mass confusion to knock off banks and jewelry stores. The military has a news conference where they state that if Negative Man is not stopped they will be forced to destroy him.
The Chief sends Robotman and Elasti-Girl to tell the military of their plan and try to stop the Negative Man from destroying the Universal Television Transmitter. However, the crooks get in the way, damaging the device in their truck with automatic weapons fire and the Doom Patrol fail to stop the Negative Man from destroying the transmitter. Robotman makes short work of the crooks weapons and while Elasti-Girl subdues them, Robotman cuts a live wire and uses his body as a conduit to flow an electrical charge into the truck and activate the device that will trap the Negative Man. The ploy works and the Doom Patrol is able to recapture the out of control Negative Man. They then return to base where they rejoin the Negative Man with Larry's body, restoring Larry to normal.
