Synopsis for Chic Carter: "The Ice Fiend"

Explorer Kane returns from an arctic expedition with strange rocks, but his assistant Derby warbles incessantly about them suffering the wrath of an ice demon the locals fear for their theft. Chic returns to follow up the story when Kane turns up frozen to death in a room with a raging fire. He quickly twigs that Derby's the guilty party, and after locking Chic in a room to suffer the same fate, the crooked assistant gladly admits as much: he cooked up the whole story and then flooded the room with "refrigerant" to freeze Kane to death and make it look like the work of an ice demon. However, Derby doesn't think through telling Chic the consequences of explaining how he committed his murder: Chic just turns off the radiator so the freezing gas can't get in, and punches out Derby when he comes to collect the body.
