Synopsis for "Fatal Pursuits"
The New Guardians take action against the Alien Alliance as the great Invasion sweeps across Asia, through China and into Russia. As a team, they rush out to stop the Warlords of Okaara from completely decimating the continent, and track them down to Ning Po, the village of Gloss' birth.
Rather thank risk harming the populace, they stealthily infiltrate the camp by wearing disguises. At this point, the Warlords are no longer exterminating Chinese, they have made their point through intimidation and are taking prisoners while shooting anyone who acts out against them. These crimes against humanity are completely intolerable. Gloss meets up with her parents again, although they do not recognize her at first in her costume. The Guardians develop a plan to sneak into the heart of the Okaaran command through treachery, and then burst out and fight all of the aliens into submission. Despite their efforts, they are unable to prevent a last ditch telecommunication to the rest of the Okaaran fleet. Rather than take more prisoners, they have been instructed to simply wipe out all life as it may prove dangerous.Jet dies of her own powers
Notes
- This issue is an Invasion! First Strike extra, and a tie-in to the larger story told in the Invasion! miniseries. These crossovers take place in between Invasion! #1 and Invasion! #2, largely dealing with the Alien Alliance's assault on Earth and the way heroes around the world were participating in the initial war effort.
- Many years later, Jet will reappear as a member of the Global Guardians in Green Lantern (Volume 4) #10.
Trivia
- Jet originally received her AIDS in a battle with the Hemo-Goblin back in New Guardians #1.
- Harbinger plans on watching Red Heat. It was the first American film allowed to shoot in Moscow's Red Square, which is alluded to in the dialogue.
