History

For years after rescuing the bottle city of Kandor from the villain Brainiac, who had stolen it from Krypton, Superman was the city's protector and caretaker. Unable to restore the city to its original size, he kept Kandor secure in his Fortress of Solitude. After immense study, Superman finally discovered a way to enlarge Kandor and its millions of inhabitants to their correct size. Rather than staying on Earth, The Kandorians decided to settle on a primitive planet similar to Krypton in a red sun system. As the Kandorians wished to end their reliance on Superman and Supergirl, the chosen planet was actually a "phase world" that normally existed in another dimension, and only rarely appeared in the normal universe.[1] The Kandorians named their new planet Rokyn.[2]

The enlargement unexpectedly caused many of Kandor's newer buildings, made of an artificial building material called grahu, to disintegrate. Although nearly half of Kandor needed to be rebuilt, the Kandorians soon made vast architectural improvements which far surpassed those of the original city. Some reformed Phantom Zone villains were recruited for this rebuilding process.[2]

Superman and Supergirl visited Rokyn to spend time with their extended Kryptonian family.

The Superman Revenge Squad once unsuccessfully attempted to conquer Rokyn. After her death in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Superman left Supergirl's body with her parents on Rokyn.[3]

Notes

  • The first mention of Rokyn was in a future Legion of Super-Heroes story in Adventure_Comics_ (Volume _1_356) #
  • The name Rokyn is a combination of Ro - the possessive form of Rao (Kryptonian God of the Sun) and Kyn, which is Kryptonian for gift. Loosely translated, Rokyn means "Rao's Gift" or "The Gift of God".[4]
