March 10, 07:48 (UTC) Veteran comic book writer Steve Gerber passed away on February 10th from complications relating to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Gerber is more widely recognized for his contributions to Marvel Comics, particularly characters like the Man-Thing and Howard the Duck. For DC Comics, Gerber created a unique character named Albert Beezer, Jr. who was featured in his own 1999 limited series A. Bizarro. He also created the character of Kent V. Nelson, the successor to the mantle of Doctor Fate and nephew to the original Doctor Fate Kent Nelson. Kent V. Nelson was originally slated to be introduced in his own 2007 limited series, but Gerber's worsening medical condition forced DC to shelve the project. Gerber finally introduced the character in the 2007-08 limited series Countdown to Mystery. Gerber passed away before completing his work on the title.
