News:Watchmen comes to theaters March 6th
From DC Database
March 5, 13:34 (UTC) Who watches the Watchmen? The Watchmen feature film opens in theaters across the country on Friday, March 6th. Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Dawn of the Dead), the Watchmen has been a movie that comic fans have been yearning for and clamoring about for years. Based on the twelve-issue runaway hit Watchmen maxi-series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the story centers on the deconstruction of the super-hero archetype, a convention that laid the groundwork for the evolution of the medium as a whole.
Reviewer Michael Doran of Newsarama poses the question, "Can you adapt the once-considered unadaptable?" The answer proves to be as complex and layered as the seminal work itself. While the movie shows Snyder's deep reverence for the source material, he is also tasked with making it not only relevant to today's socio-political structure, but accessible to casual movie-going audiences as well. Doran rhetorically poses, "What will 'general audiences' make of a film that earns a well-deserved hard R rating by uniting cartoonish superhero nostalgia with brutal violence and graphic sex?" Watch the Watchmen and you shall see.Source: Newsarama Post a Comment · Read Comments Share this story: |
