Personal History

Cardy attended the Art Students League of New York. Cardy did World War II military service from 1943 to 1945. Afterwards he met his wife Ruth Houghby and ten years later, their son Peter was born.

Cardy's marriage laster until 1969. His son died in 2001 and Nick died in 2013 of congestive heart failure at the age of 93.


Professional History

Nick Cardy was a professional illustrator. He started his career in comics working closely to Will Eisner in the early 40s, but unfortunately he was drafted to war. After the war, Cardy worked on several newspaper strips until 1950, when he started working for DC Comics on the title Gang Busters. Afterwards he worked on several titles including Tomahawk, Aquaman, The Brave and the Bold, Showcase, Teen Titans, Batman and many others. In the late 60s until the mid-70s, Cardy became one of the most prominent artists working on DC.

Cardy left the comic book industry in the late 70s to focus on commercial art and his contributions to comics afterwards were scarce.
