Nightwing (Volume 2) #11 is an issue of the series Nightwing (Volume 2) with a cover date of August, 1997.

Synopsis for "Fear Takes Flight"

Detective Dudley Soames awakes in his own appartment and finds Scarecrow all tied up in another room. Obviously Nightwing did quite a job on Scarecrow so that the villain told Dick everything he needed to know. Of course, Soames is not amused, but at least the fear toxins are still within Nightwing's body - still leading to some fear induced illusions according to Scarecrow.

Nightwing listened to the conversation and decides to get some sleep because Soames is not making any panic moves. Just as he returns home, Bridget Clancy knocks at the door to bring Dick some muffins. As she wants to prepare some tea as well, Dick cries out loud because he suddenly saw Two-Face instead of Clancy. So Dick better gets to bed and Bridget promises to look after him later.

In the meantime, Soames visits Chief Redhorn. The Chief has obviously given up on Soames after the Blockbuster fiasco. He gives Soames 12 hours to settle his affairs before he intends on turning him over to internal affairs. Therefore, Soames tries to meet with Blockbuster, but only three of his associates appear. Soames kills them before they can do the exact same thing to him. The detective realizes that he has no more allies left in the city.

Meanwhile, Nightwing gets back into action and visits Scarecrow again. But their talk is shortened by a SWAT team breaking into the appartment. Redhorn looked for Soames, but only found Scarecrow. With that lead gone, Dick makes his way to St. Anthony's home for the aged where Blockbuster takes care of his mother. As Nightwing breaks through a window, Soames is already pointing a gun at Blockbuster. Nightwing has to take care of Blokcbuster's goons who took some other old people as hostages. As Blockbuster attacks, Soames directly shoots at him several times. But the big villain just takes the bullets, grips Soames' head and turns it around in typical neckbreaking fashion. As the police arrives, Nightwing escapes from the scene watching how Blockbuster is transported on a flat bed truck. What Dick misses though is the fact that Soames somehow still seems to be alive ...
