The Mask is an enemy of Wonder Woman.

History

Timid Nina Close was the wife of millionnaire Brutus Close. He spent most of his time and money on his greatest love - big game hunting. Together with his private pilot, the adventurer Fancy Framer, he'd go on long trips and boast of his successes. But at home, he was stingy and cheap, and Nina was not allowed anything except the cheapest clothes. Resentment grew in her, towards her husband and Fancy. After a failed sabotage of Fancy's plane drew the attention of Diana Prince, Nina set her plan in motion to become the Mask and get rid of both her husband and Fancy. She donned a black wig to cast suspicion on the pilot, and mimicked her harsh and unpleasant behavior.

The Mask placed a mask on her husband's mouth - preventing him from speaking or eating. A poison would be released into his mouth unless a million dollar ransom was paid. Payment was made, and the Mask picked it up in Wonder Woman's Invisible Plane, which she had found by accident. This further helped Nina, as she could now also cast suspicion on Wonder Woman and prevent her involvement in the case. She went one step further and put masks on the Holliday Girls. Extorting the Amazon for a million dollars as well, the Mask captured her at the drop-off point.

She locked the girls with her husband, who was driven mad by food he could not eat. The Mask hoped he would rip off his mask in frustration, killing himself. Wonder Woman broke free, and with the Lasso of Truth, she was able to unmask the Mask as Nina. The years of neglect had broken her and was taken to a sanatorium, where she was expected to make a full recovery. Her husband had a change of heart and decided to donate money to the hospital.

• This version of Mask, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023.
