History
The Nolanverse is the unofficial appellation which refers to the continuity of the Batman feature films as first envisioned by director Christopher Nolan. To date, this includes the 2005 film Batman Begins, the 2008 sequel The Dark Knight and the direct-to-video animated project Batman: Gotham Knight.
Characters and settings presented in the "Nolanverse" are separate from the previous four Batman films directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher, because Nolan's films are a reboot of the film series' continuity.
The films draws largely on the "Batman: Year One" storyline which was presented in issues #404-407 of Batman comics. The storyline, written by Frank Miller with artwork by Dave Mazzucchelli, re-invented the history and personality of the Batman, as well as those of his supporting cast.
