Nothing is known about Onslaught's past before he joined S.Y.S.T.E.M., a malevolent conspiracy that secretly rules the world. Onslaught is a special operative who eliminates threats to S.Y.S.T.E.M. that are too powerful for standard SYSTEMatics.[1] To that end, S.Y.S.T.E.M. equipped Onslaught with a unique suit of high-tech battle armor that transforms him into a walking arsenal. For years, Onslaught served SYSTEM loyally and never failed a mission.
Onslaught's latest assignment was to eliminate the Dakota-based superhero, Icon.[1] S.Y.S.T.E.M was concerned that Icon's investigation of the Big Bang would eventually reveal their role in kidnapping several "Bang Babies" spawned by that event.[1] S.Y.S.T.E.M supplied Onslaught with special weaponry designed to kill his target.
Onslaught attacked Icon at Dakota's City Hall just as the hero was questioning Mayor Thomasina Jefferson about the Big Bang.[1] Icon was seemingly wounded in the attack and left at the mercy of a gloating Onslaught. Having taken care of his target, Onslaught turned his attention to the mayor, whose role in the cover-up of the Big Bang was well known to S.Y.S.T.E.M.[2] Onslaught warned Mayor Jefferson that her son would meet the same fate as Icon if she revealed the truth about the Bang.[1] Then, the S.Y.S.T.E.M agent noticed that Icon had disappeared and realized too late that the Hero of Dakota was playing possum. A very much alive Icon punched Onslaught through the building's wall and onto the street below.[1] Having underestimated Icon, Onslaught unleashed his entire arsenal against the hero. Concerned that innocent bystanders could be killed, Icon brought the battle to a quick end by using a nearby van to bludgeon Onslaught unconscious.[1] Icon then left Onslaught for the authorities.
Onslaught has not been seen since and is likely still in the custody of the Dakota Police Department. Such a fate would be preferable to Onslaught falling into the clutches of S.Y.S.T.E.M, who do not tolerate failure.

Weapons
Onslaught's battesuit is designed to be a formidable walking weapons platform.[1] The suit boosts his strength to superhuman levels and is highly resistant to damage.[1] It also has numerous built-in armaments including two forearm-mounted autocannons, a mini-gun on the left shoulder, and a turnstile-like weapon on the right shoulder. These weapons can be customized for particular ammunition..[1] For his battle with Icon, Onslaught used bullets of unknown composition that could piere the hero's alien body armor. (These bullets proved somewhat less effective in harming Icon himself.)[1] He sometimes employs various hand-held weapons that are stored on the suit's back.[1]
The primary targeting systems for Onslaught's weapons are a telescopic sight over his left eye and a laser sight mounted on the right side of his helmet.[1] These are supplemented by another laser sight mounted on the minigun.[1]
