Opal City is a city in Maryland,[2] home to the many generations of Starman.
History
It was founded in 1864 by Burnley Ellsworth after he amassed a fortune from his mining operation in Australia. With this in mind he named the city after the little gem stone that had brought him such prosperity.[1]
By 1882 at least three streets of Opal City had become a bustling built up area that some at the time compared to the streets of Paris. This was in part due to a French family, the Benoits, who had also made it rich in mining and had been invited to live there by Burnley Ellsworth himself.

Notes
- Opal City being Starman's home city is a post-Zero Hour retcon by James Robinson.[1] In Starman's original Golden Age stories, his home was Gotham City,[3] and sometimes New York City.[4] During Silver Age, Federal City is mentioned as the place where his estate is situated.[5]
- The name Burnley Ellsworth, founder of the city, is a homage to Jack Burnley, first penciler of Starman, and Whitney Ellsworth.
