Synopsis for "No Answer From the Sarge"

When one of the new recruits lets his fear of combat get the better of his judgment, he constantly seeks Sgt. Rock's protection and advice. After a few close calls where both Rock and the green soldier almost get fragged by Nazi opposition, Rock decides the best thing is to toss the rookie recruit from the frying pan and into the fire to make a real soldier out of him.

However each try, and especially after a senior officer is killed when providing back-up for the new soldier is killed, backfires and the rookie becomes even more dependent on Rock in combat. When in a dug out and surrounded by enemy fire, Rock is injured and decides to not answer the young soldier to see what he does. Finally, the kid snaps into the right frame of mind to stop worrying about if he's going to make it out of the battle alive and puts in all his effort, and the battle is eventually won.

In Easy Co.'s travels, they run into Pipe Sergent MacDuncan, the last survivor of the Cameron Highlanders. Rock and Co. welcome MacDuncan into their ranks, and the boys of Easy Co. hope that MacDuncan will play his bag pipes when they go into battle next. However with each skirmish with Nazi forces MacDuncan's pipes remain quiet an untouched. It's not until MacDuncan leads Easy Co. on an assault of Heart-Break Ridge does he play them into battle, and the battle is an instant victory.
