Synopsis for the 1st Story
McKlusky and Garcia moved out of Max's apartment from being targeted by Max's killer. They are then confronted by two National Guardsmen, who order them to drop their weapons. Even though McKlusky and Garcia profess that they are cops, the soldiers don't care and plans on killing them. Fortunately, McKlusky and Garcia quickly disarms and subdue the Guardsmen, and demands them why would they shoot them. One of the soldiers stated that that the detectives are within a designated "infected" area and were given the orders to kill anyone in the area on sight. He elaborates that given the chaos that is happening in Manhattan, he doesn't care if he kills people who looks healthy or anyone with a standing authority. McKlusky and Garcia then take the soldiers' weapons and leave.
Peter Randall recalls the life of Elizabeth Greene. Elizabeth was born in 1951 and relocated to Hope, Idaho, two years before the infection in 1969. Remarkably and prior to her infection, Elizabeth showed no unusual physical characteristics, no disabilities, nor any history of illness. Coincidentally as if of a matter of fate, Elizabeth was among a group of teens that accidentally discovered and sneak into a unfinished bunker that would be the research site of the REDLIGHT virus, before the teens were forced out by the bunker's personnel. Since during General Randall's Blackwatch team in 1969, Elizabeth infected Randall after biting his left arm, forcing him to amputated his arm. At the insistence of Doctor Raymond McMullen, Elizabeth was relocated to Governor's Island, New York for further study until her escape in the present day.
In the present, McKlusky and Garcia are abruptly called and dispatched to 125th Street where the site of a infected attack and learned that the military has cordoned off Broadway. There the two investigate a abandon building where the incident took place. Garcia questions McKlusky as to why are they trusting Max's beliefs, which McKlusky replies that "[they're] cops". Garcia points out that having saw what Alex Mercer's abilities, and the government's involvement, how are they to stop this from making things worse. McKlusky explains that the government would likely shut down the news media, but fortunately a simple person could spread what's happening in Manhattan by cellphone or internet connection. In which Garcia quips that unless the government would shut those down too. Suddenly the roof breaks down and a hunter appears before them. With their pistols' bullets have no effect on the creature, Garcia and McKlusky flees into a room and jump out a window.
Meanwhile, General Randall learns about Garcia and McKlusky's presence in Maxwell Robins' apartment. He then demands the National Guardsmen who engaged them to identify them via sketch artist in order for the detectives to be identified and killed.
