Quote1 That was the last time I saw Richard. Tonight I know what it is to be human. Tonight my super skin is still invulnerable, but my Richard is never coming back, and my heart is broken into a million pieces. Quote2

Richard "Dick" Wilson was an orphan kid who lived in the Midvale Orphanage. One day he accidentally took a picture of a flying girl. At the same time he noticed several weird things about fellow orphan Linda Lee. Dick figured out Linda was some kind of Supergirl and tried to expose her, but she managed to divert his suspicions temporarily.[1]

Dick would prove to be as much of a nuisance to Supergirl as Lana Lang was to Superboy. Dick made a few more attempts to expose Linda, but each time he came close to discovering the truth of Linda Lee's secret life, she would come up with some complex scheme to trick him out of believing the two were one and the same. After a while he gave up on exposing her and decided to keep his suspicions to himself. Eventually Linda was adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers and left the Orphanage.[2] Dick was adopted by the Malverne family not long after, and he took his adoptive parents' name, becoming Dick Malverne.

Dick would meet Linda again shortly afterwards,[3] and both teenagers would date through high school and college, but grew apart after graduation. Over a decade later, Dick sought Linda out.[4] He intended to see her again and maybe restart their relationship, but a doctor's appointment would ruin his plans.

Two weeks after meeting Dick again, Supergirl was called to the hospital to visit her dying friend. He was diagnosed with cancer. On his death bed, he confessed he always knew of her secret identity and still loved her. He also apologized for teasing her about it during childhood. They gave each other one last kiss goodbye, and he died later that night.[5]

  • This version of Dick Malverne, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
