Orphaned as a child when his parents were killed on the orders of a mobster, Dick was taken in by Bruce Wayne (Batman) and raised as his junior partner and eventual successor.
Grayson kept himself at a distance from Wayne's daughter, though he is openly attached to her in a romantic manner. Grayson does not know that she also returns his affections.
