This is just an addition to what has been written on him as much debate is here over Helena's true father. One thing is sure is that Slam is Sam's father. His real name is Samuel Emerson Bradley and he is divorced, 6'1", eyes grey, smoker, drinker, and wasn't that great of a father but he was an exceptional private investigator.

  In Catwoman #1 2002 it states that he was originally from Cleveland, Ohio and was coined the nickname "slam" at the age of twelve.  The story was that on the rought streets he out muscled a bully that was five years his senior and outweighed him by fifty pounds.  Slam he did.  
  His son was involved romantically with Helena thus making Slam a proud grandfather not old, very old dad.  Other depictions have Helena given up for adoption, or that she had great life with both parents Bruce and Selina. The best recollection I found was in issue 52 2006 and issue 70 2007 when Selina sets up her daughter safe adoption through Alfred Pennyworth after realizing she will never be safe remaining with her. Issue 50 2006 shows another depiction of Zatanna Zatara mind wiping Selina.  Later Selina begs her for the memory of Helena to be erased by Zantanna does not comply.
  I will continue to check on more of Helena and Sam and write as I find.
