Sara Lance src

Sara Lance is the daughter of Dinah Drake and Starling City police captain Quentin Lance. She is the younger sister of Laurel Lance.

At one point, Sara began secretly seeing Laurel's playboy boyfriend, Oliver Queen, with only her mother aware of the affair. Oliver invited Sara to join him on his sailing trip with his father, Robert Queen, on their yacht, the Queen's Gambit. Against her mother's wishes, she agreed. That night, while they contemplated the consequences of their relationship, the sabotaged ship began to sink. While Sara seemed to have been the first casualty, with Oliver unable to do anything as he watched her sink and apparently drown, Oliver, Robert, and a third crewman were able to escape in a life raft.

As it turns out, Sara survived in the wreckage, and, after a stay on Lian Yu with Anthony Ivo that led her to ally with Oliver and his allies. Eventually, she was found by Nyssa al Ghul some time later, and trained by the League of Assassins in Nanda Parbat under the new name "Ta-er al-Sahfer" (yellow bird). During this time, the two became lovers.

Six years after the incident, Sara has returned to Starling City, wanting to make sure that her family was safe after the earthquake that hit the Glades, and also wanting to leave her life as an assassin for the League behind while she still could consider herself a good person. Teaming up with the Arrow, who she knew to be Oliver, she killed Dollmaker, Al-Owal, and various other members of the League of Assassins before leaving to protect her family.

When her sister, Laurel, was poisoned with snake venom by the League of Assassins, Sara returned to Starling City, where she met with Nyssa once again, who was under orders from her father, Ra's al Ghul, to kill her former lover. However, Nyssa's true goal was to bring her ex-girlfriend back to Nanda Parbat and the League. Kidnapping Sara's mother while her sister was recovering in the hospital, Nyssa gave 24 hours for her to come back to the League or she would kill Dinah. Nyssa released Dinah when Sara arrived with her father. She was happy to see Sara back, only to be shocked to see Sara had taken the same venom given to Laurel, which was also a poison on the League of Assassins members with Nyssa in case of capture. In the ensuing battle, the Arrow overpowered and nearly killed Nyssa, but the dying Sara pleaded for her release. In return for her would-be final act and the apparently continued love she had for her savior, Nyssa released Sara from her vow to be with the League, and left Starling City. Not long after, Sara was nursed to health with herbs from Lian Yu, afterwards meeting with her family (including Laurel, who rejects her), and apparently beginning a relationship once more with Oliver.

After aiding in the fight against Slade Wilson's Mirakuru army, Sara returned to Nanda Parbat and the League of Assassins, giving Laurel her jacket as a remembrance. A little later, Sara returns to Starling City, only to be killed by Thea who was under the influence of a drug by Malcolm Merlyn. Sara's death causes Laurel to use her anger and rage to become a new vigilante, the Black Canary.

After discovering the existence of the Lazarus Pit, Laurel brings Sara back to life. Initially coming back as a soulless creature, John Constantine returns Sara's soul to her body. Sara begins a life of solitude in Tibet before being invited by Rip Hunter to his crew aboard the time traveling ship, the Waverider.
