A local farmer invites a writer up to Pineville Corners, to see the Halloween God which lives in their pumpkin patch. He tells the writer the creature is harmless, but what he doesn't tell him is that every twenty years it sacrifices itself to create new goblins and the goblins make the writer into the new Halloween God.
