Synopsis for "Fire From Heaven, Chapter 14 of 14"

Hong Kong, 1970. A young Dr. Simon Tsung is asleep in his lab where he and Dr. Ethan McCain have been working on cutting-edge genetic research. He awakes suddenly, reeling from another nightmare about Damocles. His wife and daughter arrive and they plan to go to dinner. But then the lab explodes, and his family is killed instantly. As he mourns, Simon hears a baby crying. In the epicentre of the explosion, he finds a glowing baby. He takes it home for study and finds some sort of dimensional super-string in its genetic structure, a living nexus of parallel dimensions. He then contacts help in the form of Admiral Cray and Miles Craven. They begin Project: Genesis and are soon joined by Gabriel Newman and Alicia Turner, assigned by Craven to the project.

They learned that the baby, which Tsung referred to as Sigma, existed in multiple dimensions simultaneously, and that he could channel energy from those other dimensions into our own. But then Tsung discovered that Craven and Newman had a secret agenda to create an army of SPBs using Sigma's DNA. Tsung decided to leave the project and take the secrets with him, and Admiral Cray helps him escape because he's concerned about Tsung's visions of Damocles. Cray assigns Maggie Monroe to help keep Tsung alive in hiding. In hiding, Tsung raised Sigma as his own child, naming him Ethan McCain after Tsung's deceased research partner.

In the present, we see Tsung finishing his tale for Michael Cray, Sigma, and Tsung's family. He says that shortly after his escape, Admiral Cray was killed by terrorists but he always suspected Craven was behind it. He tells Sigma that he has been raised in preparation of battling Damocles, with whom he shares the same power. Tsung also says that the reason Team 7 is dying now that their Gen-Factor has been extracted is because it was their physical anchor to our dimension, and now their bodies are being split apart by alternate dimensions. He thinks Sigma may be able to help them, because he absorbed the Gen-Factor extracts when he defeated the Gen-Omega clone. Tsung thinks he can reverse the process to put the extracts back into the Team 7 members.

They then see a report on TV that an unusual energy signature has covered the island of Gamorra and that it is spreading rapidly. It appears in China and kills the reporter there while he is on the air. Tsung says the energy was created by Damocles to kill Sigma, but is unfortunately killing many others as well. But then Tsung's family is teleported away by Damocles, giving them even more reason to get to the moon. They realize they can use Queelocke to teleport to the moon, but first they arm themselves with weapons for the upcoming battle. In San Francisco, inspector Lou Paris is trying to meet with Maggie Monroe but the assistant says she's not available. They argue until the energy wave hits their building, when they are apparently killed. Off the shore of Gamorra, Lucius and Maggie Monroe are on Lucius' pirate ship when Stormwatach patrol boats appear. Lucius engages the hoverfoils on his ship and they easily outrun the pursuers. But then they see the strange lights of the energy signature, and it overtakes their ship.

Deathblow, Sigma, and Dr. Tsung arrive on the moon to see Damocles absorbing the Earth's life energy. He says he will use it to create a new life for him and his family, referring to Tsung's kidnapped wife and daughter. Sigma blasts Damocles and his helmet flies off, revealing that he looks exactly like Dr. Tsung! They are dimensional copies of each other. Tsung tells Damocles how his original family died when Damocles' nexus brought Sigma to this world, and Damocles is taken aback that he is responsible for their deaths. Tsung seems to be getting through to him, but then Sigma attacks. They fight, and Sigma is losing. But then a safety mechanism in his suit activates, covering Sigma in a protective shell but leaving him helpless. The Sword tells his master to rejoice in his victory, and the issue ends with Damocles preparing to finish off Sigma.
