Synopsis for "What Simon Does"
A group of hooded men bring two blindfolded men to the ruins of Sacred Martyr Church at gunpoint. The man holding the gun, Richard Guest, declares that Fear is Lord and fear requires a blood sacrifice. As one of the blindfolded men begs for his life, Guest shoots him in the back of the head. From the shadows, a strange looking being known as Simon Dark emerges. Guest tries to shoot him, but Simon back flips behind him and draws a garrote wire across his neck. With one steady pull, he beheads him. The other hooded cultists take their leave, leaving the second would-be victim behind. The man thanks Simon for saving his life and gives him money for food.
Later, Gotham City detective Tom Kirk and medical examiner Beth Granger are called to Sacred Martyr Church to investigate the deaths. A crowd of onlookers gathers around and Beth notices that they seem oddly serene despite the visceral carnage displayed before them. Leaving the scene, Beth hears a group of children singing a nursery rhyme about Simon Dark. She stops inside nearby Webb's Market and asks the proprietor about the song. The man tells her that Simon Dark is a character that the local children made up - a pseudo-guardian angel.
Elsewhere, members of the cult convene inside of a lavish mansion. The leader of the group asks one his men, Vincent, about what took place at the church. Vincent tells him about Simon Dark, and volunteers to clean up any loose ends.
Later, Mister Dodds and his teenage daughter Rachel move into a new apartment in Gotham Village. Simon Dark creeps out of the shadows and steals a copy of Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination from one of Rachel's open boxes. As payment, he leaves behind a single dollar bill. He then leaps across rooftops until he comes to Webb's Market. He breaks into the store and takes some supplies and a box of cat chow, leaving behind a handful of dollar bills for the store owner. He then returns to his underground hideaway beneath the Sacred Martyr church, feeds his pet cat and reads his book until he falls asleep.

Synopsis for "Rumors, Legends and Secrets"
A serial killer known as Eddie the Machete stalks and murders thirteen-year-old Rose San Filippo in Gotham Village. Eddie drops her body onto the pavement and turns around only to find Simon Dark staring back at him. Simon punches him and Eddie tries to stab him with his knife. Simon sidesteps the blade and shoves Eddie's head into a brick wall. The GCPD show up and Eddie takes off running. As Simon appears to be the more viable threat, the officers open fire on him and bring him down. His body is taken to the Gotham County morgue. Medical Examiner Beth Granger is shocked to discover that Simon Dark was actually a teenage boy. More macabre however is the crudely stitched together swatches of flesh across his chest and abdomen. Detective Tom Kirk refers to him as a patchwork quilt. Though neither of them believe Simon Dark to be the serial killer, Beth is certain that he is responsible for the death of Richard Guest at the Sacred Martyr Church. She finds the bloody garrote wire used to kill Guest in Simon's pocket. Suddenly, Simon returns to life and leaps off the medical table. He runs out of the building and Granger and Kirk give chase. Simon darts across the street and is stuck by an oncoming vehicle, but he quickly picks himself up and continues running. Beth and Tom lose sight of him soon after.
At the Sacred Martyr Church, the cultist named Vincent surveys the area in search of the man who interrupted their ceremony. He plucks out his own eye and plants it in a crack in the wall. Now he can literally keep an eye on the scene should Simon Dark ever return. An old woman witnesses this bizarre act, so Vincent shoots her in the head before getting back into his limousine.
Later, both Beth Granger and Rachel Dodds arrives at Webb's Market. Beth warns Rachel that she should leave, and goes to the market of the store. She descends a staircase into the cellar where a group of men are nursing the ailing Simon Dark. One of them asks Beth if she can help him. Rachel follows Beth into the cellar and is shocked by the eerie sight of Simon Dark. She races up the stairs and runs down the street. Nearby, Eddie the Machete sits in his van and sees Rachel running home. He starts up the vehicle and begins following her.
Back at his office, Tom Kirk speaks to an unknown individual on a telephone. He says "I think I found him", then hangs up the line. He then removes his wristwatch revealing a strange scar on the flesh beneath.

Synopsis for "Dead Boys Dream"
Simon awakens in the cellar of Webb's Market after having a dream about his childhood. He's frightened when he sees Beth Granger and shouts that he doesn't want her to cut him up again. He darts past her and races up the stairs. He climbs to the roof of the building and collapses in the snow. Simon begins to feel guilty for taking the Edgar Allan Poe book from Rachel Dodds, and decides to return it to her. He returns to his underground crypt to retrieve it, but cultist Vincent's disembodied eye spies him. Now he knows where Simon lives.
At Rachel's apartment, Rachel bids goodnight to her father and goes to the kitchen for a snack. Eddie the Machete breaks into her home and holds a knife to her throat. Simon Dark creeps through a window, picks up a nearby saw blade and prepares to kill Eddie. Rachel screams "No!", so Simon punches Eddie instead, knocking him unconscious. Simon uncomfortably introduces himself to Rachel and returns her book. As her father begins descending the stairs, Simon darts back out the window.
Later, Tom Kirk goes to the Sacred Martyr Church. He finds Vincent's eyeball nestled in a crack in a wall and plucks it free. Speaking to the eye, he tells it that he has the situation under control and does not need any help. He then tosses the eyeball into the air and bats with a rolled up newspaper. Miles away, Vincent begins screaming in pain, clutching at his empty eye socket.
Tom then meets up with Beth and the two share dinner at a diner to discuss the case. Beth doesn't tell him about her experience at Webb's Market. After dinner, they go to Tom's office where they find the bound and gagged body of Eddie the Machete slumped on top of Tom's desk. Attached to him is a note which reads, "Please don't hurt me. I want to help".
