Synopsis for Wildfire: "The Midville Orphanage Murder"

At midnight on a lonely country road, three professional murderers send a car over a cliff to a fiery crash in a fake accident, then drive away in their big sedan. A few minutes later Carol Vance drives by in her open-top roadster, and spots the burning wreckage, changes clothes on-panel, and flies into action as Wildfire. She pulls a not-quite-dead old man out of the car, then sends the flames into the air, to spell out H E L P overhead, which attracts some police. The old guy turns out to be a teacher at the Midvale Orphanage, and he knows about some crooked dealings going on, but dies before he can say what. Wildfire flies in search of the sedan, finds it, and pops one tire with a flame dart. The bad guys pile out and one starts shooting; she tosses a fire ring around his gun and explodes it, right there in his hand. The other thugs now cower before her and beg for mercy; Wildfire wants some answers, but these losers don’t know anything useful. A motorcycle cops arrives and takes charge of them, as Wildfire flies to the orphanage. She’s an orphan herself, and is taking this personally.

At the orphanage, Silas Raddow, the completely corrupt superintendent, wants to get rid of the kids and seize control of the home’s endowment ($100,000). He does all his evil thinking out loud, and Wildfire is right outside his window. She flies away to make plans.

The next day, Raddow takes all of the orphans out in a big excursion steamship, for a holiday at Treasure Island. It’s a set-up; Raddow has instructed the engineroom crew to burn the ship in a fake accident, and the deck crew to put holes in all of the lifeboats. The hench-sailors have all left the ship before things get really out of hand, then Wildfire flies onto the scene, and pulls all the flames from the ship up into the air with her. In the background, Raddow is escaping in a speedboat, but now brings two henchies with him back aboard the ship. His new plan is to explode the boilers, with a time delay for their own escape, but just then Wildfire returns. They rush to attack her, but Wildfire twists aside, grabs Raddow by the ankles, swings him like a bat to knock over the henchmen, then flings him into the open door of the boiler’s furnace. The other two try to flee in Raddow’s speedboat, but she explodes its gas tank with a flame dart, killing them both. That night, she has no trouble falling asleep either.
