Solomon Baxter was the son of a notorious industrialist who built his empire prior to World War II. As a Sol went on a trip with his father to the Caribbean Sea, where their ship was struck by a storm and Sol end up being dragged by the water to an island controlled by Nazis. His father hired a young smuggler called Peter McDonald to save Sol he managed to take Sol out of the island on his plane. Unfortunately, the plane was struck by Nazis and it fell on a nearby island, where Sol and Peter were captured by natives, who performed voodoo magic on them, leaving their hands marked with a special tattoo. When they joined hands, Sol transformed into Null and Peter into Void, and thus their criminal adventures started.[1]

After years of abusing their powers for their own benefits, Sol dissolved their partnership in order to settle down and start a family. A few years later, his life started to crumble and he decided to join Peter once again in order to become Null and Void, but this time their crime spree was stopped by Superman and Batman.[2] Sol managed to escape from the heroes, but his pal Peter wasn't so lucky. Unfortunately, Sol's lucky was short-lived as his wife left him and the IRS took everything away from him, which caused him to join Peter once more.

However, Null turned against Void when their actions caused an international conflict and he assisted Batman, Superman and the ancient hero Swordfish against the powerful villain X'ult.[3] Combining his forces with Batman, Null defeated his former partner Void and by the time X'ult was returned to the past, the powers of Null and Void disappeared for good.[4]

Powers

  • Transformation: As a result of his transformation, Null gains the following abilities.

Weaknesses

  • Power Loss: Null's transformation lasts for a limited amount of time, when he returns to his human form.
  • This version of Null, including all history and corresponding appearances, was initially erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985-86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series. However the ending of Convergence retroactively prevented that collapse, saving all the alternate realities, though in an "evolved" form. Even though versions of the character may have since appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
