The Teen Titan Starfire once made a journey to South Africa and became involved in the Apartheid political atmosphere when she was framed for the murder of a peace activist named Father Mandutu.

The Republic of South Africa is the country at the southern tip of Africa.

Between 1948 and 1994, the country was locked in the grip of a system of legalized racial segregation.

History

on Earth-One

The Teen Titan Starfire once made a journey to South Africa and became involved in the Apartheid political atmosphere when she was framed for the murder of a peace activist named Father Mandutu.[1]

on Earth-Two

On Earth-Two, South African apartheid either never existed or had come to an end by the mid-1970s. In 1976, when Dick Grayson visited there as the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., it was shown that South Africa was ruled by black politicians. In the expensive restaurant where Grayson dined, the patrons were black while the waiters and busboys were white.[2]

This is a notable exception to the general rule that political and military history on Earth-Two, Earth-One and Earth-Prime were largely identical through the early 1980s (for example, the same presidents and dictators led the same countries on each Earth).
