Cyril "Speed" Saunders was once part of the FBI's River Patrol Division, but later became a private investigator and later a member of the OSS.[1]. He is the cousin of Shiera Sanders the first Hawkgirl.
Hawkgirl
When Speed finds his granddaughter, Kendra Saunders; he takes her in and begins training her, with all the skills she would need to become a hero. He was well aware that she was destined to become the next Hawkgirl. Speed became close friends with the first Sandman; Wesley Dodds, whilst on a trip to Tibet, they meet the Gray Man on Mount Kailash. They are then sent to find three babies, who one would receive the essence of Nabu and take up the title of the new Dr. Fate.[2]
Sandman
A powerful mystic the Dark Lord; Mordru arrives and demands to know the location of the Fate-Child. Wes does not intend to give up the information and keeps the Dark Lord at bay with a blast of sleeping gas. He then turns and flings himself from the mountaintop to his doom.
Speed leaves Sandman body on Mount Kailash so he can return the information to the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott and the rest of the Justice Society of America. Once he reaches civilization he contacts his granddaughter and tells her to head to Vancouver, British Columbia and protect the Fate-Child. [3]

Strength level
Despite his advanced age, Speed Saunders is still in remarkable physical shape. In his prime, Speed possessed the strength level of a man his age, size and weight who engaged in moderate regular exercise.

- Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-Two era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985-86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
