Synopsis for "A Bright Particular Star"
On the trip home following the end of their first five-year mission, the crew of the Enterprise witnesses the destruction of an experimental starship. Kirk offers assistance but is told that the situation is under control. At Starfleet headquarters, Kirk is informed that the Enterprise will be refitted. McCoy and Spock quit Starfleet and Kirk seeks out Carol Marcus. Kirk continues to inquire about the experimental starship but can't make any headway until he is offered and accepts an admiralty. Kirk struggles with his duty to Starfleet and the possibility of committment to Carol, ultimately choosing Starfleet.
