Stonegate Penitentiary is a correctional facility located in Gotham City, nearby the Gotham River.
History
It was built during Harvey Dent time as D.A. of Gotham and with help from Wayne Enterprises's owner Bruce Wayne and mayor Hamilton Hill.
Before construction, the land where Stonegate currently sits was abundant with wild flowers. Amongst these was a rare type of rose that was made all but extinct due to the construction. Poison Ivy was enraged for this fact and he sought vengeance against Harvey Dent for the deed. She rescued the last specimen of wild roses and planned her vengeance against Dent. When her plan was thwarted by Batman, she was sent to Stonegate for her crimes.[1] It was subsequently used for convicted criminals who were declared legally sane.
