Synopsis for Adam Strange: "Vengeance of the Dust Devil!"

This story is reprinted from Mystery in Space #70.

Adam Strange waits for the Zeta-Beam to arrive on Lake Makadi in Tanganyika, Africa, as usual the beam arrives and Adam is transported to the planet Rann. There, Alanna is waiting for him with his jet pack (which was left behind last issue), suddenly they a Dust Devil from the planet Rhynthar appears. The creature introduces itself as Jakarta, and that he hid in Adam Strange's holster during his adventure on the planet Rhynthar (in Mystery in Space #68) and that he has spent his time studying both Earth and Rann and that he plans on ruling both. Adam attempts to defeat the Dust Devil by blasting sand on it, but finds that this current Dust Devil has developed an immunity to such an attack. Laughing off the attack, Jakarta plans to wreak havoc on both Rann and Earth while Adam watches helplessly.

Attacking the city of Ranagar, Adam attempts to stop the Dust Devil with a hydrochloric acid, which proves to be equally as ineffectual on Jakarta. He then takes Jakarta head on, who blasts him with a gust of dust particles. When Adam gets up he finds that the creature is stunned, but doesn't get a chance to consider why because the Zeta-Beam wears off and both are transported back to Earth above Lake Makadi, there the Dust Devil knocks Adam out and leaves him to drown in the lake while he goes to terrorize the city of Melbourne, Australia.

Recovering, Adam Strange realizes that Jakarta was rendered inert because of contact with static electricity that was created when the barrel of Adam's gun rubbed against his uniform. Realizing static-electricity is the key to defeating Jakarta, he builds a portable Wimshurst Machine, and confronts Jakarta in Australia. Jakarta attempts to attack Adam but is rendered inert when making contact to the Wimshurst Machine. Adam then sets about to arrange the creature to be stored in a room filled with static electricity.

Meanwhile on Rann, Alanna awaits to see if Adam will return to Rann, victorious in his battle against Jakarta.
