The Phantom Zone villains almost make good a scheme to get themselves freed with the help of Cha-Mel, a chameleon-powered inmate who imitates Superboy. Young Kal is tricked into switching places with Cha-Mel, but ultimately their plot fails thanks to some intervention by Krypto; who reactivates the Phantom Zone Projector and switches Superboy and Cha-Mel back again.
