Synopsis for "Rock On!"

Nightwing and Captain Boomerang apprehend a couple of purse-snatchers in lower Manhattan. They discuss recent events concerning Supergirl and her commitment towards being a super-hero.

Meanwhile, Kara is dancing the night away at a trendy New York club. Suffering from a mild identity crisis, she ponders giving up her heroic lifestyle for good. She is uncomfortable trying to live up to everyone else's expectations.

Suddenly, a giant, evolved, talking dinosaur (known as an Empathosaur) begins terrorizing the street outside. Supergirl flies out of the club where she sees New York's newest hero, Terra, engaging the creature. Supergirl joins the fight, but the Empathosaur attempts to distract her by projecting images of Superman and Zor-El into her brain. Kara shakes away the confusion and manages to protect several of the night club patrons from being crushed. Terra appears to know a great deal about this creature, and keeps him at bay by telekinetically throwing a tide of rocks and debris at it. She then creates a massive crater in the Earth, and Supergirl picks the monster up and throws him deep into the crevice. With danger averted, Terra seals up the hole. She comments that Empathosaurs thrive in lava, so the creature will come to no harm.

Later, a morose Kara returns home where she has a talk with Boomer. Owen manages to get her to shake off her blues and the two go out into the night to have some fun.

Notes

  • This issue introduces a new heroine using the code-name Terra. Previously there have been two distinctive characters to assume this name, both of which were involved with separate incarnations of the Teen Titans. Terra III is featured in her own four-issue limited series published in 2008. She appears next in Terror Titans #1.
  • The Empathosaur generates pneumatic images of Superman and Zor-El in this issue.
