Synopsis for "Inheritance"

In the Fortress of Solitude, Kara Zor-El is moved by the opportunity to look on the city of Kandor, after it was taken by the Collector. Fortunately, her cousin Kal-El managed to rescue the miniaturized city, and its inhabitants. Kal sympathizes with the loss that Kara feels for her home and her people, but he suggests that she deal with that loss by staying in the Fortress, where he has enshrined every bit of Krypton that he has left. Kara would rather not spend her time in what amounts to a museum. Instead, she will search for the truth outside.

Kal admits that he has searched for information on the pod she travelled to earth in, and discovered that she had orbited the yellow sun for years. This allowed her to absorb its energy and grow in strength before even arriving on earth - to a far greater extent than Kal, who had to absorb it filtered through the earth's atmosphere. So, then, why had Kara been made to orbit the sun? Was it by design? In addition, there is the question of how her pod even made it to earth. On that subject, Kal points out that there is still a piece of the pod which has remained unrecovered at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

At first, Kal insists on investigating with her, but Kara soon realizes that he only intends to keep an eye on her - that he is trying to restrict her, because he fears she is dangerous. He admits that he has seen the damage she has caused since he left her alone, and he can't let it continue. Angrily, she warns that she has grown into her power since their last encounter, and she could easily best him. Resigned, he lets her go, and begs her to prove him wrong about her.

Kara speeds off until she suddenly hears the sound of a voice calling her name from below the ocean's surface. The voice sounds mechanical, and Kara assumes it must belong to the remains of her pod. She takes a deep breath and swims down into the darker depths. It becomes too dark to see as she goes deeper, so she uses the energy she has stored from the sun to create heat and light which keeps her dry and allows her to see. She follows the voice down to the bottom, but she is soon attacked by the disturbing creatures that live in the ocean's deepest depths. She struggles with them until she realizes that her heat-vision is an effective weapon. Unfortunately, one creature wraps its tentacles around her neck, and she is forced to gasp for air, and she passes out as her lungs fill with water.

The sound of the pod's call wakes Kara, and she realizes that she doesn't need to breathe under water. The creatures have gone, and she follows to voice until she discovers a strange Kryptonian doorway waiting for her. She cautiously steps through the dreamlike doorway, feeling as though something within it is welcoming her home. Suddenly, the voice cuts out, and another voice welcomes her in casual Kryptonian. At the end of a long hallway, Kara realizes that she is being greeted by Simon Tycho, who discovered the wreckage, and taught himself to speak her language. He claims to be there to help her, but Kara is unsure of whether or not she can trust him.
