The "millionaire hobos" accept Jimmy into their group, however try to leave him behind on a number of occasions to get to some secret riches, as it turns out these rich men have taken on the hobo persona in order to evade paying taxes and that they are seeking out a giant gem.
They soon realize that "Hobo Jimmy" is really Jimmy Olsen and that he's secretly had Superman come to help him out whenever they left "Hobo Jimmy" behind on a seemingly impossible task. They then trap Jimmy in a hole and leave a chunk of Kryptonite out to deal with Superman should he come to save his pal.
Jimmy manages to get out of the pit by knocking the Kryptonite into it and using it as a boost to get out of the hole. The millionaire hobos meanwhile have found an old mine shaft full of gems however it caves in before they can get any. Deciding that all is not lost, they hold Jimmy at gun point and order him to call Superman. They tell Superman to make them a giant diamond or risk Jimmy's life.
