When a group of kids decide to go out to the Badlands to try and find Uranium, Perry White sends Jimmy Olsen to cover the story. Jimmy soon realizes that the boys are ill prepared for the trip, and have naive notions of striking it rich with a huge Uranium find. After trying to talk the kids out of their hunt, they refuse to give up. When they have a few false finds (like when their Geiger counter picks up the Uranium in one of the kids watches) and when they run out of water and are ill equipped for a night out in the elements, Jimmy decides to call in Superman for assistance in convincing the kids to go home.
Catching the kids eating a plant, Jimmy tells them it's "Loco Weed" that will make them have hallucinations. With Superman's help, Jimmy hoaxes up a series of "hallucinations" to scare the kids into going back home. Flying them back in the Flying Newsroom, the boys are about to sneak off in shame, when Jimmy tells them that it would be better if the admit their failure to their families. To the boys surprise, their respective families are more proud of their children trying and failing then not trying at all.
