Synopsis for "K, Chapter 2: Known Deposits"
The search for kryptonite begins as Superman (now donning a protective radiation suit) and Batman scour the Earth and store what they find in the Nevada desert. Kryptonite has become as widespread as Superman has feared...Batman even finds some in the Joker's possession inside Arkham Asylum. Firestorm, Starfire and Booster Gold also assist.
While in the JLA Watchtower, Batman has located the largest deposit on the planet. A 28 ton chunk located eleven miles underwater. Before they can leave, they are confronted by Hiro Okamura, who is looking to get into the Justice League and wants to help Superman. He has developed robot spiders that will rid the world of K at a molecular level. Batman and Superman refuse his help.
Once underwater, Superman and Batman get to work. Superman realizes that this is the biggest chunk of his planet he has ever seen and speculates as to what it could have been originally. He then encounters a mutated anglerfish, which he dispatches with one punch after removing the esca (which was mutated into kryptonite).
The duo are then attacked by Aquaman, King Shark and unnamed others. They are enraged that Batman and Superman are destroying someone's history, someone's home without considering the consequences. A brief fight ensues but Aquaman allows them to take what they came for. Before doing so, he points out that not everyone may want Superman to find all of Earth's kryptonite, and that he would have to be at least part human to know that. Before he leaves, he chastises Batman, telling him that "YOU should know better".
Batman and Superman remove the deposit in silence.
