The Sandman Saga is the unofficial title of a storyline that ran in Superman (Volume 1) from #233 to #235, from #237 to #238, and from #240 to #242. The storyline has Superman dealing with a sand-created duplicate of himself.
Synopsis
The double emerged from the dimension of Quarm following an accident with a Kryptonite energy-harnessing machine that renders all Kryptonite on Earth into harmless iron. Superman discovers that this duplicate of himself is draining him of all his powers and is also intending to take over as Superman near the storyline's end. It is during this storyline that Clark Kent is made a news anchor for WGBS News, which he remains as in addition to being a news reporter for the Daily Planet until John Byrne's The Man of Steel (Volume 1) reboot in 1986.
