The British Superman Annual series began in 1951, with 2o editions published by Atlas Publishing between 1951 and 1970. Top Sellers then took over in 1971, publishing just one edition (actually titled 'Superman Giant Bumper Book'), before other publishers including Egmont and London Editions Magazines took over, continuing the series until 1986. There were then no Annuals issued until 1996, when the Annual cover dated 1997 was published shortly before Christmas by Grandreams, with another, this time published by Pedigree, following in 2007.
The frequent changes of publisher, coupled with the fact that some editions were dated the year they were released, others were dated for the following year, and some have no dates at all have caused a certain amount of confusion, as have changes of title. For instance, the 1973 Annual (actually published in late 1972) was actually titled on the cover 'Superman Annual 1', while another edition is titled 'Giant Superman Album'. All of these books, though, are essentially standard British comic albums (meaning that they are magazine sized hardback books with anywhere between 100 and 200 pages) published in sequence, so for ease of reference they are listed here collectively.
