Synopsis for Supergirl: "Memories of Menace"

Supergirl is drifting through the Phantom Zone, while back in Kandor Superman asks for a twenty-minute delay in closing the case, stating he hopes to present new evidence at the end of that period. Over Shyla Kor-Onn's lawyer's objections, Judge Ro-Lar agrees. Unfortunately, Supergirl sees her progress impeded by Jax-Ur, General Zod and Kru-El finding her and assaulting her telepathically.

Meanwhile, on Midvale "Snapper" Carr gets hired as Fred Danvers' assistant. Snapper feels happy that his plan is working out just as planned.

Back on the Zone, Supergirl retaliates physically. Mon-El joins her, and both heroes drive the Phantom Zoners away. Mon-El mentions he saw her whole trial from the Zone,[1] and Supergirl reveals she brought a mento-tape recorder with her into the Phantom Zone. Mon-El confirms he saw what really went down between Lex Luthor and the fake Supergirl,[2] and Kara extracts his memories.

Back in the Kandorian courtroom, Superman opens the Zone long enough to get the mento-tape, which is played back for the court and exonerates Supergirl. Shyla angrily ruminates over being defeated by Supergirl again, but a telepathic voice reminds her their plans aren't ruined yet. Kara is released from the Zone, and warns Shyla not to mess with her again, but Shyla replies they'll meet again.

Supergirl, Superman and Jimmy Olsen leave Kandor and Kara heads back towards Midvale, hoping for a bit of peace and quiet.

Notes

Trivia

  • "The Night of the Looters" is the final appearance of the Earth-One Laura Conway. The revised Post-Crisis Conway makes her first appearance in Adventures of Superman #446.
  • In "The Crime-Lord of Kandor", Ak-Var asks who would possibly steal the Sun-Stone. Ak-Var himself was imprisoned in the Phantom Zone for stealing the Sun-Stone decades before; and suspected of its theft a second time, in Action Comics #336.
  • Flashbacks of Mon-El in "Memories of Menace" are from Superboy #89 — where Superboy accidentally poisoned him and projected him into the Phantom Zone — and Adventure Comics #305 — where Mon-El was cured of his lead-poisoning by Brainiac 5.
  • Although Shyla Kor-Onn declares it isn't over between Supergirl and herself, she had reformed the next time both women met each other.[3]
  • The Starseed in "The Star Who Loved Lois Lane" was spawned by the same supernova which created the red-sun radiation wave that menaced Superman in Action Comics #480 - 483.
