Synopsis for "Superman's First Exploit"

This story is reprinted from Superman #106.

Dr. Reese Kearns, once discredited for panicking Metropolis with a meteor "hoax", gets the Daily Planet to run a contest in search of Superman's earliest super-feat. When pressed for the answer, Superman uses his super-memory to recall an incident in which, as baby Kal-El, he briefly emerged from Jor-El's rocket, fought a crystalline insect on a meteor, and then pushed off from the meteor to return to his rocket. The push-off sent the meteor off course and caused it to miss Metropolis, thus invalidating Kearns's claim. With that revelation, which Kearns had suspected, his reputation is repaired.

Notes

  • "Lois Lane... Dead... Yet Alive" was reprinted in The Best of DC #19.
  • This story has a companion piece in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #91. Both stories were published the same month, and feature an imaginary story where Superman and Lois marry, have a daughter, and then one of them tragically dies early in the marriage. In this story, Lois is the one who dies, their daughter is named Laney/Lanie, and their daughter is much younger at the time of the story.
  • "Lois Lane... Dead... Yet Alive" was originally published as an imaginary story, a story outside of regular continuity. In Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Compendium, it was retconned as having happened on another Earth, (Earth-215 with the last part of the story happening on Earth-Forty-Three).

Trivia

  • "Lanie" is spelled "Laney" in the actual story.
  • The tombstone establishes Earth-Forty-Three's Lois Lane was born in 1938...the same year Action Comics #1 came out.
