Synopsis for "The Day Krypton Didn't Die!"

81 years before the present, Judiciator Dug-Les of Krypton's Hall of Justice is to rule on whether or not Krypton will enact the death penalty for certain crimes. Dug-Les relates the story of an ancient invasion of Krypton by winged aliens who were driven away by rampant plant life, but left one of their number on the planet. The Kryptonians of that time tried to kill the last alien, but were astonished when one feather, torn from his arm, exploded upon contacting the ground. A shaman, Sak-Kar, and his son Ab-Kar told the others that any part of the alien's body, if torn from him prematurely, would explode upon contacting the ground, and killing the alien would probably have destroyed Krypton. Finishing his story, Dug-Les says that, but for Sak-Kar's wisdom, Krypton would have perished years ago. Therefore, he rules against the death penalty.
