Synopsis for "The Suicidal Swain"

Jimmy Olsen muses that in spite of her ability as a reporter she wouldn't be nearly as successful if it weren't for her stories about Superman. Lois inadvertently proves this theory wrong when Perry sends her to cover a story on a broken hearted man who is threatening to jump off the Bellvue Apartments. Deciding to to take matters into her own hands, Lois confronts the man and learns that the woman he wants to marry has refused his proposal.

When Lois tries to talk sense into him, the man is still insistent on jumping, Lois finally gives up, telling the man that if he is just going to leap to his death then he's not really alive anyway. It's then that the ledge they are standing on breaks, sending Lois over the edge. With her quick wits she manages to slow her fall, first by grabbing an election banner, then by her billowing dress, and finally crashing through an awning which lands her in a safety net.

Afterwards, the suicidal man decides to reconsider ending his life because of how dangerous it looked seeing Lois almost fall to her death. Later, Jimmy commends her on getting a sensational story without Superman, and the formally suicidal man tells Lois that if he's going to commit suicide over anyone in the future, it's going to be her!
