Superman (Volume 2) #48 is an issue of the series Superman (Volume 2) with a cover date of October, 1990.

Synopsis for "The Sinbad Contract: Part One"

Davood Nassur shows off and tests with his friends the new-found powers he received after the Metagene bomb that blown off during the latest alien invasion. Even though he's still weak, he can make himself float and repel objects with his mind.

Meanwhile, Superman saves a couple of policemen from a guy with a shotgun, only to be ambushed by a larger group of armored men with automatic guns, lasers, and missiles. The armored soldiers retreat, leaving the injured policemen and the guy with the shotgun injured. Superman takes the three of them to the hospital.

Soraya Naggur, Davood's sister, works at LexCorp as a secretary and is tasked to work overnight. His brother visits her, but they are suddenly startled by a wounded man who gives them a package, saying his debt with Luthor is paid. The man drops dead on the floor, and the group of armored men appears again, this time targeting the two Arab kids possessing the package. They blow up the side of the building, and the explosion lures Superman to the scene.

Inside the building, Davood opens the package and finds a black belt with a golden eye buckle. Davood puts it on, and the armored men open fire on them. Davood jumps in front of her sister, and he stops the bullets with his telekinetic abilities, now boosted by the belt. They manage to defend themselves from the armored men and escape from the building. Superman interferes and helps them by disabling an armored guard about to ambush them, but the kids run away because they are afraid of him after "how he trashed Qurac last year".[1] Davood knocks him out with his powers, and he escapes alongside Soraya.

Inside his office, Lex Luthor reflects on the medical diagnostic his doctors gave him that he'll be dead in a year. Refusing to die as the second most powerful man on Earth, he decides Superman must die first.
