TO-T-U-K is a member of the Green Lantern Corps.
History
A successor of Green Lantern AR-N-O-Q, TO-T-U-K served as a Green Lantern for nearly three thousand years until the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths forced him into retirement. TO-T-U-K had no desire to retire from the Green Lantern Corps and actually would have preferred to die in the line of duty. However, it was the will of the Guardians that TO-T-U-K pass his power ring to another. TO-T-U-K was sent to Valstan C5, a planet in the fifth sector of the globular cluster of Sector 1287, to locate his successor.
Upon arriving in Valstan C5, TO-T-U-K scanned the planet to find a worthy heir but for reasons unknown to him his ring apparently failed to pinpoint his replacement. Initially confused, TO-T-U-K soon realized that the individual he had been looking for was a hive-mind cluster of floating organisms that were floating around him, called the Collective. The Collective, however, was insufficient to become a Green Lantern due to possessing a lower functioning intelligence. But TO-T-U-K learned that the Collective has the ability to absorb the essence of an ensnared lifeform, which would also absorb the personality and intelligence of the lifeform as it was assimilated into the Collective. TO-T-U-K realized that it was possible for the Collective to absorb his power battery and in doing so, each organism of the Collective would become a living power ring. TO-T-U-K understood that he had to allow himself to be absorbed by the Collective; his sacrifice provided the intelligence and higher reasoning the Collective needed to become a Green Lantern.[1]
TO-T-U-K's sacrifice was recognized and he earned a place in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps.[2]
TO-T-U-K was also resurrected as part of the Black Lantern Corps during the Blackest Night.[3]
