Separation of Earth-One and New Earth Versions?

The depiction of Calendar Man in The Long Halloween and Dark Victory as a Hannibal Lecter-like deranged murderer is at odds with his pre-Crisis portrayal as a gimmicky theme villain, and even with the difference in M.O. aside, the fact that Calendar Man's first encounter with Batman, pre-Crisis, was long after Batman had picked up Dick Grayson as Robin creates a discrepancy with his post-Crisis timeline where he's an Arkham patient more than a year before Dick Grayson is orphaned. The fact that post-Crisis Calendar Man is depicted as an Arkham patient at all, as opposed to the definitely sane pre-Crisis version whose sole motive was petty greed, also creates a discrepancy between the two portrayals. The page is split between "Earth-One" and "New Earth" history anyway, although it seems to be confused about the canonical placement of The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. The best argument I can see for keeping the two articles together is that Calendar Man's earliest post-Crisis appearances portrayed him as fairly similar to the pre-Crisis version, but it's no great secret that the discrepancies betwen pre-Crisis and post-Crisis interpretations of Batman did not occur all at once, as they did with Superman or Wonder Woman, so much as they piled up incrementally with gradual tonal shift and retcons of the character's past.
