- No one gets it, do they? Everyone assumes I'm unhappy because I haven't been "normal" since I was a kid. They feel sorry for me. My parents died, I got green skin, called a freak. I joined the Titans where my girlfriend was killed... after selling us out to Deathstroke. Yeah, life has been hard. It's sucked sometimes. But that doesn't mean I don't like it. And being "normal" is overrated anyway.
Beast Boys and Girls is a Teen Titans storyline written by Geoff Johns with illustrations by Tom Grummett. It's the third volume in Johns' Teen Titans series, published between Family Lost and The Future is Now. In its collected edition, it is reprinted with Johns' earlier Beast Boy mini-series.
Synopsis
The Teen Titans receive blood-tests from Doctor Rovin after their battle with Brother Blood. Beast Boy flashes back to contracting Sakutia as a child, when his parents Mark and Marie Logan were studying with Samuel Register. They enjoy a day off afterwards and go shopping, with Kid Flash and Raven getting tattoos. Wonder Girl is haunted by Ares and misses Superboy, but Raven empathically makes her feel better. Superboy travels to Gotham City and confronts Stephanie Brown as the new Robin, angry that she's taken over for his best friend. The Titans arrive at a school where children are turning into green animals, and Beast Boy returns to a normal skin color.[1] It's explained that Sakutia has left Beast Boy and become airborne. The Titans track down the transformed children while Rovin performs tests on Beast Boy. Superboy tries to get Tim Drake to come back, but Tim insists he is happier not being Robin and refuses. Raven uses her abilities to calm the crowds, but Wonder Girl's Lasso of Lightning doesn't work as well while her emotions are dampened. Dr. Register is brought in to help deal with the crisis, but he shoots Beast Boy with a tranquilizer and reveals that he is the Sakutia carrier.[2] Register, now calling himself the Zookeeper, reveals that he accidentally infected himself with Sakutia and needs Beast Boy for the cure. Cyborg attacks and Zookeeper turns into a dinosaur, rampaging through the streets. Beast Boy realizes he is the only person who can stop Zookeeper, so he infects himself with Sakutia a second time. Having given up his chance to be normal, he defeats Zookeeper. Register is sent to Alcatraz and it's revealed that he is also immune to Sakutia. The children survive, as Beast Boy's modified strain of the virus cures them. Raven tells Wonder Girl she plans on going back to high school and trying to have a normal life. Tim Drake returns as Robin and goes back to active duty with the Titans.[3]
